Frequently Asked Questions

What is counselling?

Counselling (otherwise known as therapy) is a regular opportunity to talk about whatever you feel you need to discuss, concerning difficulties you may be experiencing in your life. You may want to: explore your feelings surrounding a challenging period in your life e.g. relationship issues or life transitions; make sense of and find a way of dealing with difficult emotions; or learn some strategies to help you cope with any mental health issues you may be experiencing in your life.

Am I ready for counselling?

Counselling can be a useful option for many different difficulties that arise in life e.g learning tools to cope with low self-esteem, anxiety or depression. However, only you can decide whether you are ready for therapy.  If you need further help in deciding whether you are ready, you could try completing this questionnaire: 3 questions to ask yourself as you start therapy.

What happens during counselling sessions?

The first session will be a free, online, 30 minute intake session, where you decide whether I am the right fit for you and you can discuss what your goals are from therapy. Sessions will then continue in six week blocks hour-long appointments, with regular reviews on whether you feel you have made the changes you would like to see in your life.

How long does counselling take?

This depends on the nature of the issues that you would like to work on. Some issues may need only a few sessions and more complex concerns can take much longer.  You are, however, free to stop sessions whenever you like.

Where would it take place?

Sessions take place at my therapy room near Dereham, or they can happen online if you prefer.

How much does it cost?

Introductory 30 minute intake session: Free

Regular 60 minute session: £50

Payment is required 24 hours in advance and you can pay by cash, bank transfer or cheque.

Is counselling professionally regulated?

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
